Michelle Madsen
Michelle Madsen is a Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist.
She makes performances which queer dominant narratives through subversive, socially-engaged site-specific and theatrical performance. She studied English Literature at Balliol College, Oxford, Devised Theatre and Performance at Lispa and holds a postgraduate certificate in Integral Movement and Performance Practice from the Thomas Prattki Centre. Her pedagogical practice draws from Pochinko clown, the mask work of Jacques Lecoq, the exploration of archetypes through a Jungian lens and the tarot through the work of Marianne Costa and Alejandro Jodorowsky. Her embodied practice incorporates elements of Alexander Technique, Body Mind Centring and Axis Syllabus and she is in the second year of the Unfold Method teacher training programme. Michelle is co-director of the award-winning theatre company Bait (Cronivision, Kill The Princess, Rewilding Uncle Dad) and her poetry has been performed and published internationally (Burning Eye Books, La Ninfa Eco). She has supervised and taught embodied writing, bouffon and clown on the performance MA/MFA courses at arthaus.berlin and Rose Bruford College London and teaches creative writing for the UK's Poetry Society. She is exploring collaborative and disruptive practices as a member of the Make-Up artist collective in Berlin.
